This is a new way to applique. Your applique is actually free standing until you place it on your background exactly where you want it to go.
Choose from either of two books by “The Dog Lady.” Sharon Malec. She has two books “The Dog Lady Goes Wild,” which includes a lion, an elephant, a tiger, and an orangutan, and also “The Dog Lady Speaks” which includes 6 different pet patterns (Sheltie, Min-Pin, Pug, Shih-Su, Jack Russel Terrior, and Persian cat. If either of these books don’t suit you, she has more patterns that you can see and order at the following web address. These patterns here can be ordered individually for about $10.00.
The Class will be offered in two sessions:
First Class 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. In this class we will discuss color, shades, and tints, to decide on colors you will choose for your picture. You will need your pattern book, glue stick, 4 to 6 business envelopes, freezer paper, marker or pen, fabric scissors, and paper scissors. A sharp pair of small pointy scissors for cutting small pieces of fabric will be helpful. An iron and board will be available, but if you want to bring your own small iron and pad that will be useful. You will also need some general colors that you are thinking of using for your picture and background. Don’t worry if you don’t have all of your colors, we will talk about that and you can go shopping after the class to get the additional fabrics you will need. This class will have a homework assignment before the next class.
Second Class 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. In Class 2 we will continue to evaluate the color choices for those that are still unsure. We will place and join together the rest of the applique pieces in each group. We will put the groups together and place them on the background. We will talk about framing and additional colors to enhance your quilt. We will use perma pens and pastels to bring your animal to life with shading and highlights. We will discuss thread painting when you begin quilting your piece. In this class you will need to bring all of your pieces and fabrics, your sewing machine, glue stick, thread, scissors, and pattern instructions.
